Hotel Description:
The New Sheridan Hotel has served as Telluride’s social center since 1895. Located just two blocks from the ski lifts, the hotel’s location in the heart of downtown Telluride provides an ideal base for visitors. During an expansive renovation completed in late 2008, the hotel’s 26 guest rooms received a luxurious transformation under the guidance of internationally renowned designer Nina Campbell. Each individually designed room captures the historic charm of Telluride in an atmosphere of warmth, comfort and pampering.
Indulgent touches include 100 percent Egyptian cotton sheets and towels, heated bathroom floors, walk-in closets, iPod docking stations, LCD flat screen televisions and plush robes. The New Sheridan’s two new roof-top hot tubs provide an après ski sanctuary with views of the 14,000-foot San Juan Mountains. Additionally the hotel offers secured ski storage with boot warmers and a long list of amenities designed to make guests feel pampered.
On-site dining options include the Chop House restaurant, the Parlor, and the historic New Sheridan Bar. The Chop House is a popular gathering spot where guests can enjoy premium steaks, fresh seafood and a variety of unexpected entrees along with over 200 selections from the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence-winning wine list. Added in late 2008, the Parlor serves espresso specialty drinks and light breakfast and lunch items along with wine and cocktails in the evening. Long a favorite of Telluride locals and visitors, the New Sheridan’s historic bar is among the oldest watering holes in the west. Recently ranked among the top 10 après ski bars in the world by Forbes Traveler, the bar provides an atmosphere unlike any other.
The original Sheridan Hotel was constructed in 1891 to provide boarding for the growing mining town of Telluride. Destroyed by fire in 1894, the New Sheridan was built, this time in brick, in 1895. The New Sheridan is a member of the National Trust for Historic Hotels of America and is dedicated to preserving the property’s historic integrity, architecture and ambience.

The Chop House Restaurant Description:
On the ground level of the New Sheridan Hotel, the Chop House has become a Telluride favorite since opening in 1995. True to its name, the restaurant features premium steaks such as prime filet mignon, 14 ounce New York strip and bison ribeye that are cooked to perfection in a 1800-degree custom broiler. Unexpected selections such as quail with blue cheese, New Zealand elk short loin and Tasmanian wild salmon add diversity to the menu. Chef Erich Owen’s lofty resume includes working at the helm of respected restaurants such as Koi in Las Vegas. His emphasis on quality ingredients and impeccable preparation bring extraordinary depth to the Chop House experience. The restaurant’s Wine Spectator Award of Excellence-winning list was recently expanded to include over 200 selections by the bottle, and a new 16-bottle nitrogen wine bar system allows the Chop House to offer 30 wines by the glass.
The Historic New Sheridan Bar:
Rated as one of the 10 hottest après ski bars in the world by Forbes Traveler, the historic New Sheridan Bar is also one of the west’s oldest saloons. The site still boasts its original detail with a hand-carved wood bar, lead glass divider panels, mahogany wood paneling and filigree light fixtures. Guests can enjoy a warming cocktail after a long day on the slopes or chat with locals to discover the best-kept secrets of Telluride. This piece of the town’s history is a tried and true good time.
Hotel History:
During the San Juan Mountain gold rush, the smell of worn leather and the sounds of hard labor filled the air of Telluride. As precious metals were unearthed, more prospectors and profiteers moved to the area. The growing mining town of Telluride needed boarding for its passers-by and thus the Sheridan Hotel was constructed in 1891. Destroyed by fire in 1894, the New Sheridan was built, this time in brick, in 1895. As decades passed and Telluride’s riches changed from gold to powdery snow, the New Sheridan Hotel evolved as well. A detailed renovation in 1995 reinstated this historic treasure to its former glory and added the renowned New Sheridan Chop House and five additional rooms. In late 2008 the hotel was renovated again, adding indulgent design elements and details that ushered in a new level of luxury. With the mission of protecting the irreplaceable, The New Sheridan Hotel was accepted as a member of the National Trust for Historic Hotels of America and is dedicated to faithfully maintaining the historic integrity, architecture and ambience of the hotel.
