Learn a New Art Form In Telluride with ‘Escape Artist’ Travel Package

In partnership with Telluride’s Ah Haa School for the Arts, the historic New Sheridan Hotel is helping visitors explore, develop and celebrate their creativity with the new “Escape Artist” package.

The Ah Haa School’s workshops, with subjects that range from photographing people and drawing landscapes to metal smithing and creating gnomes for the home, are taught by local and national instructors in a former turn-of-the-century train depot four blocks from the boutique hotel in downtown Telluride.

Telluride Travelers Can Answer Call of the Wild with Survivor ManCation Package

For anyone who has ever watched “Survivorman” or “Man vs. Wild” and wondered how they may fare in the wild, the New Sheridan Hotel in downtown Telluride is offering the Survivor ManCation package.

Instructors from the San Juan Outdoor School, who have previously ben tapped to train US military special forces, will transport visitors to the San Juan Mountains to for a day-long training. Instructors will cover techniques that include fire wood selection, building and maintaining a fire without matches or a lighter, shelter-building and cooking on an open flame. New Sheridan Hotel History

Established in 1891 when Telluride was only four years old, the New Sheridan Hotel has been welcoming guests for well over one hundred years. Like the town itself, the hotel was built with riches from gold and silver strikes in the surrounding San Juan Mountains. The original Sheridan Hotel was a three-story wooden frame structure, erected at 233 West Colorado Avenue directly east of the Courthouse. Three years later, in 1894, the original building was destroyed by fire. The present brick building at 231 West Colorado Avenue was erected next door to the burnt lot. The newly constructed, three-story building was completed in 1895 and reopened as the New Sheridan Hotel, this time in brick. Thus, the Sheridan has been “new” since 1895.

Telluride Airport Improvements

Recent news articles have reported that the Telluride Regional Airport (TEX) will be closed for runway improvements beginning in April. Telluride visitors will continue to have a number of air service options available during the closures. The Montrose Regional Airport is a 68-mile drive to Telluride. The airport is serviced by a variety of rental car and shuttle companies. Additionally, visitors have the option to fly in and out of the Durango La Plata County Airport (approximately 129 miles), the Grand Junction Regional Airport (approximately 134 miles) and the Cortez Municipal Airport (approximately 79 miles).
